Rowan Sebastian Atkinson (born January 6, 1955) was a comedian, actor, and British writer, famous for his television series Blackadder and Mr. Bean. According to The Observer, he is one of the 50 funniest people in the UK. He was born in Consett, County Durham in 1955 from the family Eric Atkinson, a farmer and company director, and his wife Ella May (née Bambridge). His brother is a politician Rodney Atkinson. He went to Durham Choristers School, then St Bees School, and studied electrical engineering at Newcastle University. While in school, he was a classmate of former prime minister Tony Blair. He then obtained his M.Sc. from Queens College, Oxford.
He began appearing on television on the show Not the Nine O'Clock News, followed by The Black Adder, and then Mr. Bean. Atkinson has starred in ads for Hitachi, Fujifilm, blood donors, and Barclaycard. In addition, he appeared in the films Never Say Never Again, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Lion King, Rat Race, Love Actually, and played a major role in the Bean, Mr. Bean's Holiday, and Johnny Home.
Atkinson married Sunetra Sastry in 1990, had two children, Lily and Benjamin, and lives in rural Oxfordshire. He has a collection of cars and writing for magazines Car and Evo. Car collection mostly consisting of Aston Martin, including the DB7 used in Johnny Home. Cars Aston Martin V8 Zagato have his license plate number "COM1C", and driven in the film The Tall Guy.
